So Much to Explore! Discover Adventure at the Library.

The Children’s Room of the Center Moriches Library is a bustling hub of learning, play and activity. Our room is designed to include spaces for reading, playing, interacting and creating. Computers are available, along with centrally located seating for work and play. Our toddler play area features assorted imaginative toys, games and a play kitchen to explore and learn.

Below is a list of our myriad of amazing offerings.

  • Children get ready to read long before they start school. This is called early literacy. It is simply what children know about reading and writing before they can read or write. By reading aloud to your child, you can help them get ready to read! This is why we encourage you to enroll your child in our “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” Reading Initiative.

Check out our 1KBK Book Packs while you are here! We have over 100 thematic book packs for your family to read and enjoy! Each pack counts as one checkout and are available only to Center Moriches Library card holders.

  • Looking to find out more about the birds in your back yard? Want to learn some magic? Or maybe you are going on a trip and need some games to play in the car. Visit the Children’s Room to take a look at all of our themed backpacks. There are many fun and educational subjects to choose from. Each backpack includes themed books and a variety of games, manipulatives, DVD’s along with other resources. Ask a Children’s Librarian or search the catalog for more information!

  • Ever want to start a book club with friends or family? Our Booktalks in a Bag supply you with everything you need to do just that. The bags include 10 copies of the book and a resource folder with games, discussion questions, puzzles, activities and more! If available, there is also a copy of the audiobook and the movie! Great for scouting groups!

  • The Children’s Room offers a variety of multi-session programs that alternate throughout the year. Additionally, single session special programs are also offered. A flyer is available in the Children’s Room with current offerings. Please ask a Children’s Librarian if you need additional help or view the program calendar or learn more about the programs.

  • Discover encyclopedia articles, multimedia, primary sources, games, and other learning resources for Elementary, Middle and High School.

  • September through May, Elementary School aged children may come to the Children’s Department to sign up for our winter reading program, The Super Reader Challenge! This program runs during the school year up until May. Each month, there is a different challenge sheet available. Complete each challenge and return to the library for some fun surprises!
