MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed; and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

WHAT WE DO

Quality library service is important to our commuity. The Friends of the Center Moriches Free Public Library, Inc. is a not-for-profit, charitable group of civic-minded neighbors formed to support the Center Moriches Library. FOL has provided many needed items for the library and conducted numerous library and community programs.

This past year FOL was able to purchase items and sponsor programs for the library. Some items included updating the defibrillator equipment, a new Cricut machine, laminator, and four carrels for the Teen section. We also sponsored concerts during Patron Appreciation Week and Friends of the Library Week, as well as Lotto ticket raffle, adult tote program, and a shredding truck. At Shredding Day we also collected 300 food items and donated them to local food banks. Programs already in place continued, such as, refreshments for Teen Movie Night, breakfast/snacks for library staff meetings, Monday afternoon games, planting and maintaining the various plants and flowers in the FOL garden, holiday poinsettias and gifts for all library staff, toy donations for Toys for Tots, supplying books to the VETS home in Riverhead, support of the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, and our outreach program, Library at the Laundromat. Our very popular bus trips, thrift shelves and book sales continue to be big successes.

So far, 2017 has been a very exciting year for the library and its patrons. Please watch for all our program announcements on this website and in the Center Moriches Library Newsletters throughout the year.

FOL meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month, 7:00 pm, at the Center Moriches Library. (No meetings in June and December).
