POETRY & PROSE ROUNDTABLE: Come and join this informal gathering for anyone interested in writing or listening to poetry, first Saturday of the every month, 12:30 pm-2:00 pm. All are welcome!

MONDAY AFTERNOON AT THE LIBRARY: FOL sponsors games in the library's Community Room each Monday, 1:30 pm until closing. Enjoy a friendly game of Mah Jongg, Scrabble, cards and other table-top games along with great conversation.

TEEN MOVIE/PIZZA NIGHT: The Young Adult Department offers teens a chance to view a popular film and socialize while they enjoy pizza and popcorn supplied courtesy of FOL. See the Library's current newsletter for date and monthly movie title.

BOOKS FOR VETS: FOL provides books to the VETS in Riverhead with the help of Commander Lou Baer, VFW Post 414, Center Moriches. He requests books when the shelves are ready and delivers them to their facility quickly and efficiently. As long as there is a need, we will supply the books.

LIBRARY AT THE LAUNDROMAT: This program brings adult, teen, juvenile, and children’s books to an area laundromat. Not every resident can frequent our libraries, so children have access to literature that otherwise may not be available to them as well as adults who may want something to read while waiting.

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN: The program goal is to read 1000 books before your child starts kindergarten. Prizes are sponsored in part by FOL to those who reach this goal.

LANDSCAPING: FOL plants and maintains the various plants and flowers in the FOL garden. Helping hands are always welcome for Spring and Fall cleanup.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY WEEK: The events for the FOL week were outstanding!
  • Saturday, October 14 was shredding day at the library. It was held from 9 am to 12:00 pm. Not even the rain dampened the spirit of the day. Many boxes were shredded and much food was donated. In all, 2000 pounds of paper was shredded. Also, 25 bags of food was collected from donations and distributed to various area food pantries. Special thanks go to all our FOL volunteers and generous patrons.

  • On Sunday, October 15 patrons were entertained and delighted by the beautiful sounds of the Island Hills Chorus. They sang tunes that highlighted holidays in each month of the year. Refreshments were served and a raffle was also held. It was a very enjoyable evening! [photos]

  • Wednesday, October 18 was the Fall Theme Painting on Glass activity conducted by Doris Benter with over 25 patrons in attendance. Beautiful artwork, good conversation and a great time was had by all! [photos]

  • Children’s pumpkin decorating was held on Friday, October 20. Eighty children, along with their parents, attended the three sessions. It was such a special day with so much fun for everyone. The children did a great job! Extra special thanks goes to Librarians Caitlin Sprague, Margie Decaro, Laura Austin, and Library Clerk Lisa Ferguson for conducting this super fun activity. Stop by the Library to see some of the decorated pumpkins! [photos]
