Budget FAQ

We are currently in the process of updating the content of this page to reflect the 2026-2027 Proposed Budget and Trustee Election for the Center Moriches Free Public Library.  Some of this information may change.  We appreciate your patience.
  1. To adopt the Annual Budget of the Library for the Fiscal Year 2026 – 2027 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the School District.
  2. To elect one (1) Trustee of the Center Moriches Free Public Library to a five (5) year term commencing July 1, 2026, as a result of the expiration of the term of office presently held by Colleen Hogan.

The Library hosted a Budget Hearing at the Library at 6:30 pm on March 31, 2026.  Here is a the presentation.

The vote will take place in the Community Room of the Center Moriches Free Public Library from 10:00am – 8:00pm.  The library is located at 235 Main St. in Center Moriches.  The Children’s Activity Room can be reached by entering the Children’s Room and turning left at the Children’s Desk.

Residents of the Center Moriches School District, who are registered to vote and who have voted at any annual or special district election in the past four (4) years are eligible to vote.

All those who are registered to vote with the Board of Elections of Suffolk County pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law shall be entitled to vote at this Special District meeting notwithstanding their failure to have previously registered with
the School District.

  • Register by mail:  Completed registration forms can be mailed to the Suffolk County Board of Elections (mailing address is on the form). Forms may be obtained at the Library’s Adult Reference Desk, at a U.S. Post Office, or here (English) or en Español.
  • Register to vote online at the DMV or through New York State
  • To register for Center Moriches School District votes only, go to the Center Moriches School District Business Office (located at 529 Main St., Center Moriches) during regular business hours not later than five (5) days prior to the library’s Budget Vote and Trustee Election.

If your registration record has been marked permanently disabled by the Suffolk County Board of Elections, you will receive a ballot to vote in your mail.  Please follow the same procedure for submission as an Early Voter / Absentee.

Eligible voters can obtain an early voter/absentee ballot by completing and submitting an Application for Absentee Ballot or Early Voter to the Library’s Election Clerk.

Submit your completed Application for Absentee Ballot or Early Voter, including both your residence address and the mailing address where you wish to receive the Early Voter / Absentee Ballot (if different from residence) to:

Deadlines for Applications to be submitted:
If Early Voter/Absentee Ballot is to be mailed to you, applications must be received by the Election Clerk no later than seven (7) days prior to the Vote/Election. The Library has no control over postal delivery times. It is, therefore, recommended
that your Application be submitted as early as possible to allow enough time for you to receive and return the ballot.

If Early Voter/Absentee Ballot is to be picked up at the Library, applications must be received at the Library by 5:00 p.m. on the day prior to the Vote/Election.

Place your completed ballot inside the ballot envelope. You must complete the FRONT and BACK of the envelope. ENVELOPES THAT ARE NOT SIGNED CANNOT BE ACCEPTED AND YOUR VOTE WILL NOT BE COUNTED. You may return your completed ballot by mail or hand deliver it to the Library. Ballot Envelopes must be received by the Office of the Election Clerk at the Library no later than 5pm on the day of the election.

Petitions nominating candidates for the office of Member of the Board of Trustees may be obtained from the Clerk of the School District commencing February 27, 2026; must state the residence of each signatory; must state the name and address of the candidate; must describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent, and must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the School District; and must be filed with the Clerk of the Center Moriches Union Free School District not later than 5:00 p.m. on March 16, 2026.

A military voter who is a qualified voter of the School District may apply for a military ballot to be issued to him/her by obtaining from the Office of the District Clerk of the School District at 529 Main Street, Center Moriches, N.Y. 11934 an application for such ballot by mail or by email to [email protected] or by fax to 631-878-4326. In the application the military voter may request that the ballot be returned by mail, facsimile, or email. The application for the ballot must be returned to the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 23, 2026. Military ballot applications received in accordance with the foregoing will be processed in the same manner as a non-military ballot application under Section 2018-b of the NY Education Law.  The application for a military ballot should include the military voter’s preference for receipt of the military ballot by mail, fax, or email.

A military voter’s original military ballot must be returned by mail to the office of the Library Election Clerk, 235 Main Street, Center Moriches, N.Y. 11934.  Military ballots shall be canvassed if they are received by the Library Election Clerk: (1) before the close of the polls on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the U.S. postal service or a foreign country’s postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the U.S. government; or (2) received not later than 5:00 p.m. on election day and be signed and dated by the military voter and one witness, with a date ascertained to be not later than the day before the election.
