Promoting Reading in Our Community

Mission Statement

The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed; and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

What We Do

Quality library service is important to our community. The Friends of the Center Moriches Free Public Library Inc. is a not-for-profit, charitable group of civic-minded neighbors formed to support the Center Moriches Library. FOL has provided many needed items for the library and conducted numerous library and community programs.

In 2022 we celebrated Friends of the Library Week with The Haunted Tea and pumpkin painting for children, teens and adults. FOL assisted the library on shredding day and collected non‐perishable food items and monetary donations for local food pantries, supported the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, and sponsored the library’s Bicycle Book Mobile. FOL maintained its outreach programs: Library at the Laundromat and the Little Free Libraries at Kaler’s Pond and Moriches Bay Recreation Facility; held very successful books sales, a few raffles, the Book Club, Puzzle Swap; and the annual scholarship program presented awards to three of our local high school seniors.

This year we have resumed many of our programs while adding some new ones. Watch for all of our program announcements on this website and in the Center Moriches Library Newsletters throughout the year, and please join us if you would like to become an active member of the FOL.
