Library Outreach Programs
Not every resident can frequent the library. To get books to the community, FOL
provides a number of outreach programs. One is the Library at the Laundromat. This program brings adult, teen, juvenile, and children’s books to an area laundromat. We also sponsor two Little Free Libraries – one at Kalers Pond and the other at the Moriches Bay Recreation Facility on Frowein Road. A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for this Little Free Library was held on June 11, 2021 and FOL received a certificate of congratulations for the Little Free Library. A wonderful day! [Photo] We hope to place more Little Free Libraries throughout the neighborhood in the future. Books at these three outreach locations are circulated on a monthly basis.
The newest additional to the Library is the Bicycle Book Mobile. Run by the
Library and sponsored by the FOL, this Bicycle Book Mobile will tour the community providing books and information about the Library. Keep an eye out for it!
Friends of the Library Week
FOL Week is celebrated every year on the third week of October. It increases awareness about our goals, projects and, more importantly, gives us an opportunity to thank the library and its patrons for their support and generosity throughout the year.
This year FOL Week started with a food drive on Shredding Day. Monetary and food items were donated and distributed to local food pantries. Thank you to all those who gave and contributed. Then on October 18 there was a presentation by Kerriann Flanagan Brosky, author of Haunted Long Island Mysteries and paranormal Joe Giaguinto. A very interesting and exciting event. October 28 was The Haunted Tea. It was tea, finger sandwiches and a perfect afternoon of Halloween fun. And finally, Pumpkin Decorating for Children. FOL Week 2023 was a hit!!
