    Colonial Youth & Family Services is a not-for-profit community-based youth and family agency located in Mastic, NY. Our origins are in a grassroots movement which was encouraged and assisted by local residents, school officials, and the Suffolk County Youth Bureau back in 1970. A countywide needs assessment by the Youth Bureau culminated in the agency being incorporated as a private, non-profit organization in 1973 with initial funding from the Suffolk County Youth Bureau. Originally developed to serve the William Floyd School District, which encompasses the hamlets of Mastic, Mastic Beach, Shirley, and the Moriches, Colonial’s incorporation now enables us to offer services throughout Suffolk County.

    Phil Trypuc Sr. ran a photography shop in Center Moriches.  Throughout the years, he took pictures of life in the area and graciously donated several of his pictures to the library.  We have digitized them and collected them online.

    Masury Estate is maintained by the Holiday Beach Property Owners Association. John Masury, a local paint manufacturer, built the estate beginning in 1894. Work was completed by his widow, though sadly most of the building was washed away in the hurricane of 1938. Today the building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is maintained as part of the local history of the area.
