Parking Lot Expansion Project

August 17, 2024

In 2023, the library acquired the land at 0 Railroad Ave. This land was purchased in part with a generous monetary donation from the Friends of the Center Moriches Library. The Board of Trustees then engaged the services of John Tanzi Architects to design the Site Improvement Project.

In July 2024, the library received approval from the State Education Department to proceed with the plan that will create 55 new spaces, widen the existing parking stalls and include additional designated handicapped spots. It also creates a pathway to walk through the parking lot.

The project budget is $700,000 of which the library was awarded $225,000 in the form of a New York State Construction Grant. Careful budgeting has allowed the library to proceed with this project without asking the taxpayers for a bond.

The Notice to Bidders was printed in the library’s designated papers, The Southampton Press (western edition) and the Long Island Advance in the August 15, 2024 edition.

Official Bid Results

September 20, 2024

Insurance, bonds and contracts have been reviewed and signed.  Clearing of the lot should begin shortly.

September 27, 2024

Equipment has been brought in to clear the lot.  The Center Moriches Library sign that was refurbished by our local Eagle Scout Joseph Luongo, was removed and relocated several yards further back on our property.

The existing shrubs and greenery surrounding the sign were dug up, balled and will be replanted once a majority of the work has been completed in that area.

Any trees around the perimeter of the property that were not diseased or in danger of falling remained.  Fencing will be next and landscaping will be planted once the project is complete.

October 7, 2024

Installation of the vinyl fencing around the perimeter will begin this week.

October 8, 2024

Posts are being installed for the fencing and completion should take several days. Later in the week crews will begin to grade and remove topsoil and fill. Project is on schedule for substantial completion by the end of November.
